Fatima House Launch - Sunday 27th November 2016
On Sunday 27th November, there was a service of thankgiving to launch the opening of Fatima House. It was decided last year, that the Presbytery should be handed over to various charities, after discussions and meetings with the People of the Parish, on how we could assist those in need.
Research showed that there was a desperate need for destitute woman from various different countries to be accommodated and then be given the opportunity and be signposted to the right agencies in order to apply for asylum and be granted the right to stay in the country. After alterations to the nine bedroomed house, Fatima House was opened and woman of all ages and nationalities are formally referred to the house for a period of six months where they are put into contact with the correct agencies. There are currently eight woman living there who are supervised and advised by various people from different charities. On Sunday the service of thanksgiving began at 3:00pm and afterwards the people attending were given the opportunity to visit the house and go on a tour. (See photos below) During the service, we recited the Global Our Father, (see below) to remind us of God's love for all and the reassurance that through His Words, we can try and make a difference to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. |
OUR FATHER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name
in peoples across the world, of different races, culture and religion, in families and religious communities, in places of work, centres of study, hospitals and places of refuge.
Your Kingdom come more and more in the hearts of those who work in your name,
of those who know you least and those who have no hope.
Your will be done on earth, in the hearts of saints and sinners
and of those who have an abundance,
from which to give to the hungry, the sick, the untaught,
the homeless, the asylum seeker, the unemployed.
Give us this day our daily bread, the bread of your body,
the necessary bread for the poor at home and the poor across the world,
the bread of truth for this disturbed generation.
And forgive us our trespasses, our coldness, our constant failure to reach out to those in need,
we we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; give us the grace to resist the temptation to judge, the temptation to count the cost,
the temptation to fear failure, the temptation to selfishness,
to a closed mind.
But deliver us from all evil of injustice, of war, of violence,
the evil of failing in affection, respect and support
for those who live and work with us,
deliver us from the evil of turning away from you.
